Serj Tankians’ firts solo concert in Yerevan

Rock mood, a large concert hall and a lot of fans… all this was for the rock music lovers of all ages, who had got the chance to attend the world famous rock singer – Serj Tankian’s first solo concert in Yerevan, August 12, at the Sport Concert Complex named after K. Demirchyan.
The concert organizers Deem Communications and Fugitive Studios did their best to organize the concert as it should be. As noted earlier, at the press conference, it was not the first time the rock star had visited Armenia. He has gone solo concerts due to the release of his album, “Imperfect Harmonies” and to promote his latest work, he had been embarking on a month-long world tour that had stopped many countries. And today, the musician will give a concert within the framework of this tour.
“I have been trying to make a concert for several times, and I succeeded this time. I would like to visit Armenia before or after the tour. In this case I would manage to spend more time here, still, I will come again,” Tankian said, at the press conference. Famous American “Viza” rock group, five from nine members of which considered to be Armenians, performed together on the same stage. By the way, speaking about the group Tankian once said, “Viza” is one of those unique and interesting groups that I’ve ever met. Their energetic live shows are a combination of eastern and western music” “I’ve managed to perform with different orchestras during his “Elect the dead symphony” tour, in Berlin, Italy, Austria. My show group consists of eight members, and the concert will be a mixture of classic and rock.” And so it was.
Speaking about his music career Tankian said; “In childhood my family used to inspire me
to play guitar, the piano, but I wasn’t much interested in. I’ve never liked school. In college I
began to master my skills and that was quite a thing of relaxation and this became my life. I was 19 or 20 years old when fall in love with music, then we founded our group “System of a Down” and the fame came with it progressively.”
Asked to what extent he was familiar with Armenian rock music, Mr Tankian said that he did not know it well. “I am not a lover of one single genre. I am a lover of good music. I do not put difference between jazz, rock, pop or classical music. I like to work and inspire all the musicians no matter he is an Armenian or not”.
It is known that Tankian is one of those musicians who have always been preaching the recognition of the Armenian Genocide, though he still doesn’t know whether he’ll write a song on the 100-th anniversary of the Genocide in 2015. And in conclusion, we must say that during his musical career, he has released five albums with System of a Down, one with Arto Tuncboyaciyan (Serart), and his debut solo album Elect the Dead. He has worked with many rock groups, musicians from abroad and from Armenia, among them being Jivan Gasparyan Junior.
