Erebouni – Yerevan

This festivity is of utmost importance one among the national holidays, and we celebrate it  every autumn mostly in October. This autumn we’ll celebrate the 2792nd anniversary of Erebouni – Yerevan. Indeed, a great event for such a small country with about three million population, but who can be proud of the ancient history and culture.
Cuneiform record left by Argishti the first tell the following: “In the greatness of the god Khald, Argishti, Menua’s son, has built this impregnable fortress and called it Erebuni for the power of the country of Biaini and to enemies’ horror.” The cuneiform also records the date of birth of Yerevan – 782 B.C. So, Yerevan is older than Rome and has about the same age as Babylon, Nineveh and Persepolis.
The Urartian kingdom centered on Lake Van in Eastern Turkey gave Yerevan its first major impetus. The Urartians built the citadel of Erebouni on the hill of that name in Yerevan. A substantial museum at the base of the hill formerly, known as Arin Berd, houses many of the finds, including a few examples of Urartu’s splendid metal work. It was 2792 years ago. The plate exists up till now as an evidence of birth of Erebouni, which became Yerevan. Though Yerevan has seen a number of obstacles, difficulties it has experienced a renaissance and is prospering year after year. This year we are going to celebrate the 2792nd anniversary of Erebouni-Yerevan, and, so we’ll have a number of festivities in the town under the patronage of the Municipality of Yerevan. On that day Yerevan will wear its birthday clothing, we’ll enjoy Armenian dances and songs, wishes and greetings, theatrical performances and fireworks display.
