Born in 1954, Yanni was one of the artists, who rose to popularity as part of the new age music boom of the 1980s and ’90s to enjoy great and ever lasting success. Composing and performing instrumental music with a pronounced sense of drama, dynamics, and romanticism, Yanni broke through to a significantly larger audience than his peers thanks to a commanding performance style that attracted fans through frequent appearances on public television.
Yanni became worldwide famous and favorite artist of people. It does not take Yanni much time to realize his first conception. Soon after beginning to strike out separately, he recorded his first album, “Optimystique”. In 1993 Yanni performed a special show at the Herod Atticus Theater in Athens, Greece, after which an album called “Yanni Live at the Acropolis” was recorded. Likely this album became major success for Yanni, which was sold over seven million copies worldwide. Concluding his tour of concerts in over 40 countries, Yanni recorded perhaps his favorite album – “Truth of Touch”, which was done as an album with game plan. “I wasn’t even trying to make an album,” YANNI recalls. “I just felt like writing music. I happened to be at a point where I wasn’t stressed out about going on tour or having to deliver an album for anyone. It was just a six-month period where every night I walked into my studio and I had fun. I felt the music. It just showed itself to me. It was probably the best way to do an album.”
And now after successful tours throughout the US, Canada, Mexico and Panama, Yanni begins series of concert in Eastern Europe (Yerevan, Bucharest, Budapest) starting in September of 2011 that will continue onto Asia (Beijing, Shanghai, Seoul, Dubai) and Latin America. New Age maestro Yanni continues his new series of concerts in Eastern Europe giving a great concert in Yerevan on 23 September. Greek born composer is no stranger to Armenian music and Armenian Instruments. As the great composer said, he spent considerable amount of time studying other cultures and music. This comes to say that Armenian music also became an inspiration for world famous musician, and Yanni created masterpieces around ancient instruments such as the 3,000 year old Armenian Duduk.
In recent years Yanni has also called upon Armenian musicians such as the great violinist Samvel Yervinyan among others. In fact Samvel is now part of Yanni’s orchestra and is currently on a world tour with Yanni. So, great opportunity for Armenians, as well as guests and visitors of Armenia to enjoy the glorious concert of Yanni in one of the most beautiful capitals of words – Yerevan!
