The Bike tour itself is meant to show that it is possible to travel and live on little energy. Participants sleep in tents or in housing offered by people they meet on the way, they cook for themselves using products bought from local farmers, and generally promote a ‘do it yourself lifestyle. The cyclists are also trying to build up a fair community among themselves while on the road. This translates into consensus – based decision – making on all issues and the use ot a special currency, the eco-rate, which means that those from wealthier countries contribute more to the costs of the trip than those from poorer countries. On August 10 a biking tour was organized in Gegharkunik Region, Armenia, with the initiative of U.S. Embassy of Armenia. Among the 35 participants were amateurs who took a cycling tour in Gegharkunik Region just to show others that traveling and a good life are possible without much energy consumption.
This event mainly set benevolent goal, the fond of which was to assist Iraqi children, to provide them food and other medicaments. According to one of the participants such kind of tours are repeatedly organized, and they will have a continuation in future. The participants do not often have such an opportunity as many of them work, and this was an ideal chance to relieve them and feel the triumph of real extreme.
