There are few doctors whose names are carved on the marble statue of Hippocrates in Greece. Among the few is world-famous Romanian doctor of Armenian extraction Ana Asian who created a remedy that prevents aging and its undesirable effects.
Ana Vasilica Asian (1897-1988) was a founding figure of geriatrics and gerontology, doctor of med-ical sciences and academic of the Romanian Academy of Sciences. Her mother and father, Mergert (Mkrtich) Asian and Sofia Prunchul, had roots tracing back to Armenian ancestors. In 1922, Ana Asian graduated from the University of Bucharest and in 1948-1952, she headed the Physiological Clinic at the Institute of Endocrinology of Bucharest. Following the theory of Romanian doctor, academic Parhon, according to whom aging is an illness that can be cured and even prevented, Ana Asian undertook the initiative to prepare a remedy that would prevent aging and expand one’s lifetime.
In 1946, Ana was visited by a 140-year old elder who had lived in a forest 600 kilometers away from Bucharest and had carried stumps of trees on his shoulders until the age of 98. According to the elder, the secret to his longevity was sleeping in fresh air and eating wholesome foods. Ana Asian started conducting studies on the elder who had lived in the forest and died at the age of 144. After several attempts, in 1950 Ana Asian suggested the “Gerovital H3” treatment containing anesthetic procaine hydrochloride (Novocain).
Asian conducted her first experiments on age-old sheep. The sheep became energetic and their wool thickened. Asian went on to conduct experiments on elders suffering from arthritis. After receiving treatment, they started walking, got strong and active and were even able to work and play sports. It turned out that the “Gerovital H3” can expand one’s lifetime to 100 years and up, cures paralysis, certain cardiovascular and neurological diseases, rheumatism, strokes, diabetes, etc. In 1951, Asian founded the Geriatric Institute in Bucharest, which was the first of its kind in Europe.
She chaired the gerontologists and geriatric doctors’ association of Romania since 1959. Ana first introduced the “Gerovital H3” concept in 1957 on the International Doctors’ Congress held in the German city of Karlsruhe. Before her lecture, doctors participating in the congress underestimated Asian’s discovery. “Poor Ana has started aging. She is going to make us laugh with her Novocain,” they said. However, after watching the film about the usage of “Gerovital H3,” that ended at eight in the morning and listening to her speech, which ended at two in the afternoon, doctors were aston-ished and gave her a standing ovation. World presses wrote, “Ana Asian overcame aging.”
Asian and her treatment became internationally proclaimed after the congress in Karlsruhe. The treatment began to be produced in vials, pills, creams and Asian’s signature was on the boxes. Similar medicine was produced in Italy, France, Belgium and Germany. In addition to “Gerovital”, Asian also created the geriatric “Aslavital” treatment and the “Aslavital for Kids” treatments for mentally disabled children. She has lectured in various countries and has been a member of many international research organizations. She has published works that have been translated into many languages. Notables such as Charles De Gaulle, Nikita Khrushchev, Konrad Adenauer, Charlie Chaplin, Indira Gandhi, Broz Tito, Lillian Gish, Marlene Dietrich, Elizabeth Taylor and Ho Chi Minh have benefited from this anti-aging therapy. In 1983, a prize was named after her in Germany.
The renowned doctor-scientist died in Bucharest in 1988 at the age of 91. Today, the Geriatric Institute founded by one of the greatest doctors of the 20th century is located in a large park just 17 kilometers from Bucharest where elders from four corners of the globe come to receive Anna Asian’s marvelous treatment.
