It is said that laughter lengthens our lives. It is not necessary to study or test it to believe; it is enough only to look at the man who laughs heartily and you’ll immediately understand that his life will lengthen by all means depended on the strength of his laughter. To make people laugh is a great art, it is not proper to everybody, but those who dominate that mastery, are really happy people because they grace the others with happy moments.
Laughter is life, and we Armenians like the life. Different regions of Armenia have their unique humor, which exposes the sincerity and simplicity of Armenians. Who has never heard a humorous description about people of Aparan or Gyumri, or who does not know famous humorists Pyly Pughi and Poloz Mukuch whose every word and idea shine with their wit and life-giving laughter?
To be sure, let’s tell you one of the humoristic fables of prominent 18th century humorist Pyly Pughi, which will give you sincere laughter and will add at least two new pages to the book of your life by all means. And so… Once a well-dressed man from India comes to Meliq Shahnazar’s palace, where Pyly Pughi has been working as a jester. That man was all the time praising Indian jewelry. Meliq gives a large amount of money to that man and asks him to buy precious stones for him. A year passes and no news of that man.
One day Meliq orders Pughi to make a list of the unwise people in his court and to show him. Pughi manages the order and presents the list to the lord. Meliq looks up and notices that his name is the first in the list of unwise people’s names: “1. Meliq Shahnazar”. And he begins shouting at Pughi. But Pyly Pughi replies calmly: “My powerful lord, there is no person more stupid, than you in our palace because you gave huge amount of money to a stranger in order to bring precious stones for you, but there is no news from him. “And what if he brings”, – cries Meliq. “In that case I’ll delete your name from the list and write his name”, – answers Pughi with the same tranquility.
