Avlabari: The Armenian district in Tbilisi, is one of the oldest districts of the city, which is located on the left bank of the Kur River. For a long time Avlabar existed as a separate city and only eventually merged into the capital. Now most of the district is part of Old Tbilisi, where the Tiflis flavor has been preserved unchanged.

Previously, this area was one of the favorite gathering places of the Armenian intelligentsia in Georgia. The 19th century life of the area is well represented in Janareli Auksenti’s play “Khanuma”. It is not known when the area began to form, but at least almost 600 years ago there was already information about it. First mentioned in 1398 and was listed on the foreground of the city.

The area is rich in fine examples of 19th century Tbilisi architecture. It also has an Armenian theatre, the New Etchmiadzin Armenian Church, the Georgian Orthodox Church of Tsminda Sameba (Holy Trinity), as well as a metro station and Avlabar Park.
