Fortress Boloraberd or Proshaberd is located in the Vayots Dzor region; 6-7 km from Vernashen, opposite the museum GladzorUniversity. It was founded in the 13th century by Prince Prosh Proshyan< /span>.
The fortress was built from the main highway to the east, on the top of the rock of a separate hill. It was a defensive structure of the ruling castle-fortress of the Castel type.
В Boloraberde made of local gray basalts quartz stones. The walls are made of medium-sized stones, mostly located in a horizontal direction. The height of the surviving external parts is6-7 m.The walls are three-layered. There were 5 pyramids at the fortress, but 4 have survived to this day.
Boloraberd span>was a princely residence, occupying 1-1.5 hectares of the mountain peak area. Proshaberd had basalt protective walls and a water supply system, the pipes of which can be seen to this day. The walls and towers have been preserved. The internal defensive structures of the fortress, the weapons base, barracks, as well as the chamber of the princes Proshyanov were destroyed and are located under a thick layer of earth. On the western side there is a chapel, and 1-2 km to the southeast there is the Church of St. Astvatsatsin (St. Mother of God) Spitakavor.
