All fans of real shows over the open air can come to Syunik every year to take part in the Sheep Shearing holiday reminiscent of the Olympic Games, during which the organizers will provide many interesting moments, a variety of tastes, a wide range of local products sold and a thousand smiling faces.
In Syunik, this festival was first held on May 3, 2014 in the village of Halidzor, Tatev municipality, the number of guests exceeded 5000. In Halidzor there is a station of the longest cable car in the world Tatever Wings >. The festival is held in different villages of Tatev municipality.
The main characters of the festival are sheep, the participants are villagers belonging to the Tatev municipality. The sheep shearing competition is attended by representatives of these villages, who use the traditional and indispensable sheep shearing scissors handed down to them by their grandfathers as a device. And the most interesting thing is that the sheared wool is further passed on to skillful women, who with amazing speed turn this wool into a pure thread, from which Syunik women wove carpets. During the festival, guests can enjoy the performances of the Karin Folk Song and Dance Ensemble, while lovers of Armenian dances can take mastery lessons from the ensemble, before the start of the main show, get acquainted with the handicrafts presented on the benches, taste homemade delicacies and purchase original souvenirs, fragrant doshab and unique mulberry vodka.
