Поселение Старый Хот часто называют «Армянским Мачу-Пикчу», имея ввиду гористая местность, существующие старые построения и дома, которые очень похожи на старое поселение инков в Перу, построенный в середине 15 веке. В окрестностях старой деревни сохранились дохристианские гробницы, которым 3000 лет, жилища, старые кладбища, на территории одного из которых находятся руины построенного в 12 веке Красного монастыря. Согласно легенде, колокола этой церкви славились своим мощным звуком, отсюда и происхождение имени региона Зангезур, что на армянском означает Звон колокола. На территории старой деревни находится церковь «Мргадзорский крест», построенный во второй половине 17 века, а в северо-восточной части Старого Хота, на высоком холме, находится монастырь Хота, старинное здание, построенное в 5-6 веках.
Поселок расположен на левой стороне реки Воротан, на высоком плато, в 67 км к северо-востоку от административного центра Сюникского регина г. Капана. Со всех сторон окружен недоступными скалами и лесами. Здесь до 1970-х годов была заселена, после жители переехали на более удобную территорию, которая теперь является деревней Хот.
Уже несколько лет около деревни Хот организуется традиционный фестиваль «Стрижка овец», во время которого участники соревнуются в конкурсе стрижки овец.
