The Museum of Tigranakert was founded in 2011. Head of the Department of Tourism under the Government of the NKR Sergey Shakhverdyan called Tigranakert “one of the important parts of our historical homeland.” “In addition to Tigranakert itself, the reserve also includes the historical environment of Tigranakert. This environment is very rich in historical monuments and evidence. Today, restoration work is underway in the 18th century fortress, where the Tigranakert Museum will be founded.

The museum of the ancient city of Tigranakert presents documentary materials and valuable finds discovered during archaeological excavations. According to experts, Tigranakert has existed continuously since its foundation in the 1st century BC. e. until the XIII-XIV centuries, and the historical monuments found fully correspond to the criteria of Armenian identity.

Today, more than ever during its existence, the museum has the opportunity to effectively enrich its funds thanks to archaeological excavations and archaeological finds carried out in Nagorno-Karabakh.

The museum also houses a small second-hand bookstore where you can buy booklets, books and photo albums about Karabakh.
