The Vayots Dzor region, where the village of Areni is located, is known for its thousand-year-old traditions of making wine from the local Areni grape variety. Every year the plant produces about 250,000 bottles of wine, half of which is exported to Russia.

The term wine tourism has become more common in recent times, meaning visiting well-developed and renowned wine regions to see the wine production process and taste different varieties of wine. During the trip, it is planned to visit wine-making centers, cellars, get information about the history of production, taste the best local wines, visit vineyards and see the entire process of creating wine. Guests will be told how glasses for red and white wine differ, at what temperature it is preferable to drink wine of different colors and how to hold the glass correctly. If the visit takes place during the harvest, then guests can take part in the harvest and even trample the grapes under their feet. Wine tours are interesting not only for wine lovers, but also for people for whom wine is just a drink.
All over the world, it is preferable to participate in those wine tours, during which you can visit many factories located close to each other. So, in Vayots Dzor there are many wineries where you can taste very different wines, and wine collectors have a large choice.
