Aragats is the highest mount in Armenia and the forth in the territory of Armenian Highlands. It is also the highest point of Transcaucasia. Aragats is extinct volcano, which can be seen from city of Yerevan and Shirak, Kotayk and Aragatsotn provinces. It consists of 4 peaks, the highest of which is Northern (4090m), and the lowest – Southern (3879m) – that is of our concern. Climbing the Northern peak requires more serious preparedness, while the Southern is more preferable for non-professional climbers. The most suitable period for climbing Aragats is from June till August, when mountain trails are dry and safe. In winter, when slopes are covered with snow, only professional climbers on skis are recommended to climb Aragats.
Aragats name is associated with Aramanyak – one of the sons of Armenian nation's forefather Hayk. According to another version, Aragats is named after ancient Armenian god Ara. Aragats probably means Ara's throne. During the tour we also will visit Armenian Alphabet Alley and medieval Amberd Fortress. After we will ride on a car to Kari lake (3200m), and begin our climbing to the Southern peak of Aragats, when we can enjoy the spectacular views from the heights of clouds.

Tour programm

Early morning departure from Yerevan.
Without any deviations from the route, in the morning we will take a brief stop near the East slope of Aragats and visit Armenian Alphabet monument, which consists of 39 letters of Armenian alphabet made of local stone – tufa, and statues of prominent Armenians. This monument was erected in 2005 to the 1600 anniversary of creation of the Armenian alphabet.
On a car we will reach Kari lake, located at an altitude of 3200 meters. This lake was formed by ice floes, and has a depth of about 9 meters. There are a meteorological and scientific research stations, equipped on the shore of the lake.
Afterwards we will climb the Southern peak of Aragats under the guidance of professional climber. It will take from 5 to 6 hours.
Picnic in the open air.
After climbing and conquering peaks Aragats, we go down and on the Southern slope of Aragats visit medieval Amberd Fortress. It dates back to the 10th century and is one of the fewest well preserved fortresses of that period. Near Amberd, almost upon a deep gorge, Vahramashen Church is located.

Aragats tours
Today we had the pleasure of reaching Aragats (south summit 3879 m and west summit 4010 m). Full of admiration and respect of this mythical and impressive mountain and the hospitality of the Armenian people!

Honeymoon trip to Armenia
Dear Barev Team, Angela and I wanted to write to say a huge thank-you to you and your team for the two amazing tours we had on our recent honeymoon trip to Armenia. We would like to give a special mention to both Sargis and Hrach for making our excursions truly unforgettable. They were both extremely professional and knowledgeable whilst also being very friendly and fun guys to talk to and hang out with. Our driver was great as well- punctual, polite and very good at missing potholes! We would also like to say how much we enjoyed Armenia. It is a truly beautiful country filled with great surprises, awesomes sites, kind people and delicious food. We are already recommending it to our friends and family as a destination and Barev Armenia as the best tour operator to show them around. We wish you continued success. With kindest regards, Jonathan and Angela Baulk

Hiking tour to Aragats Mount
The hiking passed really well, we really enjoyed it! Some of the participants did find the tour more challenging than expected and at some points it felt like some training or experience beforehand was necessary. But besides that it was an amazing experience!

Your first-hand experiences really help other travelers. Thanks!
