Food and Wine Tour: Delicious Armenia
Traditions of Armenian cuisine, rich with recipes, are as ancient and unique as Armenian nation. Most of the dishes are prepared of local products and have centuries-old history. Armenian cuisine was closely associated with traditions and rituals; dishes were considered not only as food, but as part of spiritual ritual as well. During this gourmet tour in Armenia we will combine visiting sights of Armenia with acquaintance with Armenian cuisine, researching and participation in the process of food preparing.
Arrival in Yerevan. Yerevan tour – visit to Matenadaran, where manuscripts of ancient Armenian recipes are kept. Acquaintance with technology of cognac making and Armenian cognac tasting in Ararat brandy factory. On lunch tanapour the soup and assortment of Armenian tolma. Walking tour in evening Yerevan. Armenian traditional welcome with songs and dances khashlama tasting.
Departure from Yerevan. Visit to Amberd. Khash (boiled pork) tasting on the top of Aragats: near lake Kari. Back to Yerevan.
Departure from Yerevan. Visit to rock-cut monastery Geghard. Participation in lavash (Armenian bread) making in Garni, tasting of khorovats meat and vegetables made in tonir, apricot and mulberry vodka, as well as gata (Armenian national pastry) in a local’s house. Visit to Garni pagan temple. Back to Yerevan.
Departure from Yerevan. Tour to Khor Virap and Noravank. Tasting of Armenian wine assortment in the cradle of Armenian wine-making Areni. Overnight in the guest house of a local winemaker .
Visit to Noratus, Hayravank, Sevanavank. Tasting of dishes, prepared of ishkhan (trout), sig, Sevan crayfish at Lake Sevan beach-side restaurant. Dinner and overnight in Tsahkunk guest house , which is famous for its unique menu - improvisation on traditional Armenian dishes with handwriting of the chef and owner. The master class of cooking lamb in tandoor.
Departure from Tsaghkunq to the Dilijan rest town. Tours to monasteries of Haghpat and Sanahin. Participation in bread making process at local bakery, goat khashlama and dishes prepared of the local assortment of herbs in Lori. Fruit vodka tasting. Back to Yerevan
Tour to Echmiadzin and Zvartnots. Echmiadzin kyufta (type of meatballs) in the local restaurant. Transfer to the airport.
