The Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concert Complex (SCC), named after the former head of the country during that era, Karen Demirchyan, was inaugurated in 1983. The design was executed by the “Armgsproekt” Institute, led by notable architects such as Koryun Hakobyan, a People’s Architect of the USSR, Artur Tarkhanyan, a People’s Architect of the ASSR, and Honored Architects of the ASSR: Hrachya Poghosyan, Spartak Khachikyan, and Gurgen Musheghyan. Engineers Igor Tsaturyan, Grigor Azizyan, and Mikael Aharonyan, along with sculptor Ferdinant Arakelyan, also contributed to the project. In recognition of their innovative architectural and planning solutions, the authoring team was honored with the State Prize of the USSR in 1987. This prestigious award acknowledged their outstanding contributions to the field.
The SCC gained prominence as a venue for various world-renowned performances, including artists like Michel Legrand, Demis Roussos, the La Scala Opera Symphony Orchestra, Thomas Anders, Bonnie M, Ian Gillan, and more. It hosted diverse events such as the International Chess Olympiad, the European Wushu Championship, pan-Armenian basketball games, and international and republican sports tournaments in disciplines like wrestling, boxing, weightlifting, rhythmic gymnastics, and acrobatics.
The SKK boasts a grand entrance hall measuring 1300 sq.m., radiating an aura of comfort and hospitality from the moment visitors step inside. This expansive and luminous space serves as an ideal setting for a wide array of events, including exhibitions, presentations, and corporate gatherings. For a quick and delightful bite or a cup of coffee with friends, the express café is readily available.
Occupying an area of 3785 sq.m., the sports hall accommodates over 7,000 spectators. Outfitted with cutting-edge sound and lighting equipment, the venue offers unparalleled possibilities for large-scale productions, concerts, regional and international sporting events. Notably, the revolving stand with 1008 seats showcases an innovative engineering solution, facilitating the addition of extra seating within minutes.
The concert hall, spanning 1275 sq.m., is designed to host an audience of 2000 attendees, making it an optimal setting for concerts, corporate events, and other performances. This hall is equipped with state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems, ensuring a top-notch experience for both performers and audiences.
The Hayastan conference hall is equipped with the latest conference technology from prominent European manufacturers, rendering it an excellent choice for crucial international meetings, seminars, scientific gatherings, conferences, and presentations at any level.
Adjacent to the Hayastan Conference Hall, the Argishti Hall serves as an ideal space for receptions and relaxation for participants attending events at the complex.
