This tour to the highest point of the Geghama ridge and the third highest mountain in Armenia –Mount Azhdahak(3597m) is considered one of the most popular mountain and hiking tours in Armenia.
Most of the year, Mount Azhdahak is covered with snow. The slopes of the mountain are quite smooth and passable. From the top of the mountain there is a picturesque view of the surrounding mountains and the lake formed in the crater of the mountain as well.
Azhdahak is an evil dragon in Armenian and Iranian mythology, whose name is Azhi Dahakyan. Azhi means serpent, dragon, against which the thunder god Traetaon fights.
To shorten the journey and fit it into one day, we will cover the first part of the road in off-road vehicles, which will not only shorten it, but will also add even more interest to our ascent. During our ascent we will witness the oldest evidence of mythification and worship of natural forces: wall paintings and vishapakara – dragon stones, which are monuments that can only be found in the Armenian highlands.
