If you want to test your strength, enjoy the views of the mesmerizing mountain landscape, and see the amazing and diverse creations of nature, I think you should climb the highest point in Armenia. This is the Northern peak of Aragats, whose height is 4090 meters. During the ascent you will be able to admire the picturesque alpine lake Kari at an altitude of 3200 meters. The view of crystal water surrounded by ice, snow and the peaks of Aragats will remain in your memory for a long time.
On the way to Aragats, visit Amberd Castle, dating back to the 7th century. The ruins of this man-made castle amaze with its power and indescribable force of attraction. Next to the castle is a church from the 11th century. It is difficult to imagine how a person could build such a powerful architectural creation in such an inaccessible place without special equipment. But the culmination of the tour is, of course, the top of Aragats: on the one hand, the legendary Mount Ararat opens up, the peaks of which are sometimes covered with a snow cap, on the other hand, the beautiful and mythical mountains Ara and Hatis, and at the end of the tour a majestic crater (depth – 350 m and width – 2 .5 km) and an amazing waterfall.
According to legendSt. Gregory the Illuminator(the first bishop of the Armenian Apostolic Church) climbed to the peak of Aragats for prayers and at night an unquenchable lamp shone for him, which hung directly from heaven. The legend says that this lamp still shines at night, but only initiates can see it.
