Museum-institute after Komitas was opened in 2015 and is aimed at development of Komitas studies, research of Komtas’ creative heritage and its popularization. Komitas was a prominent Armenian composer, singer, ethnomusicologist, musicologist, priest and tutor. He is considered to be the founder of modern Armenian classical music.
Life and works of Komitas, his musical, theoretical and spiritual heritage, as well as rich collection of pieces, assembled from spoken folklore, are represented at permanent expositions of eight salons. The museum-institute has a concert hall, permanent and temporary exhibitions. A scientific and research center, musical studio, library and publishing house will operate in the territory. For arrangement of expositions different museum items from Museum of Literature and Arts after Yeghishe Charents, National Gallery of Armenia as well as from the collection of National Library of Armenia were passed to the museum.
