The StateMuseum of Fine Artsof the Republic ofArtsakhwas founded from 2010 to 2013. on the initiative and organizational support of ProfessorGabrielyants Grigory Arkadyevichand consists only of gifts. The museum building was built with the support of the government on the site of an old inn in Shushi, while the original architectural appearance of the building was preserved.

One of the historical buildings of the city of Shushi, built in the 19th century and destroyed during the acute phase of the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, was restored for the State Museum of Fine Arts. Only the façade of the building remained from the house. During the restoration of the building, its historical appearance was restored. The building is two-story, consists of several halls, an art salon where souvenirs are sold, and a foyer with a stage.

In the city of Shushi, in addition to the State Museum of Fine Arts of Nagorno-Karabakh, there is an art gallery of Shushi, the building of which is in need of repair. The Ministry of Culture assured that this issue is on the agenda.

A special place among the exhibited paintings is occupied by paintings by Karabakh artists.

The official opening of the State Museum of Fine Arts took place on May 9, 2013, on the day of the liberation of Shushi.
