Tatev Mets Anapat (The Big Desert of Tatev) is an Armenian medieval monastic complex on the bank of the Vorotan River of Syunik region. The Desert was one of the most important late medieval complexes of Armenia. It had great strategic military significance during the liberation battle lead by David Bek in the 18th century.
The founder of this architectural complex was catholicos of all Armenians Hakob D Jughaetsi. The monastery was a large educational, religious and cultural center. According to Arakel Davrizjetsi, there were 700 monks in Tatev Desert.
